What actually happened was the worst bit of luck you can have.

I knew the disks were old but as Raid 0 – splitting the load I thought that at 12 years old they would take the upgrade to Windows 10 Creative.

They didn’t and both gave up.

I also thought that with the backups I’d been taking I could restore and that was my first problem.

The current machine was Windows 10 home upgraded to Creative.

The backup machine was Windows Pro not upgraded to Creative.

The restore from image backups imagined that the files are an image file. They are not and MS are now using xml so you can’t mount a hard disk backup file and recover individual files from MS 10.

I took other backups and so only lost a week but then my backup needs updating, upgrading and that means I’m into another dogs dinner and I get a machine up to scratch. Nuance as usual was a pain in the ass, demanding msxml files.

All the mindmap files were lost; the map files for the build of my fantasy world lost as well and the last week’s work gone, plus of course that Wordplex now requires me to log in without telling me and the stuff I wrote is as spasmodic as Wordplex has become.
